   To Yesterday

"This is why I write. To receive pictures like this from readers I have never met before. A marking in the sands of a beach. It’s things like this that make every word worth it.  Thank You."

"Very rarely does a book come along that touches the reader on a deep emotional level. A book that leaves you thinking about it for days on end, that leaves you in awe at the authors writing abilities because you just can't get those characters out of your mind. This is one of those books.

I have to give credit to Mark Wildes' ability to weave words. His descriptions are amazing and his writing very philosophical. He takes situations that we all experience in life and puts it in perspective with feeling. This is one book you’re just going to have to read to get the full impact. And don’t you dare flip to the end "just to see" – you need to experience this book from page one to the end – and believe me it will be an experience you will not soon forget.

This is a story of how living in the past can affect the future, how love is the essence of life and how letting go can allow you to begin anew. This is definitely a book with a well written plot and unique twists and turns, a bit of the paranormal, and an in depth look into love and life. I highly recommend this book. It's a keeper that I know I will read again. But grab a box of tissues near the end – if you have a heart - you’re gonna' need them."

"Life is layered with meaning we're often too blind to see. How much control do we really have over our lives, why is happiness so fleeting and our thirst for love and understanding so eternally unquenchable? Pondering the imponderable can open the door to fear and doubt, and usher through the ghosts of yesterday, it's true. Mark Wildes' attempts to open our hearts and minds to the quiet splendor of life in To Yesterday, however, a profoundly introspective novel about love, loss and the choices we're destined to make. With its philosophical and preternatural focus, To Yesterday is a combination of mainstream fiction and artful fantasy, of dreamy imagery and realistic emotion.  Mark Wildes' debut novel is both a sentimental tear jerker and a multi-dimensional work of fiction... "In his debut publication, TO YESTERDAY, Mark Wildes relates the story of Janice Gaither -- a middle-aged woman, realizing that her life is not what she wants it to be, and who is haunted by ghosts of her past . . .

I very much enjoyed the characters, the mysteries of the lake and the abstract connections that can lead an eclectic group of near complete strangers down the path to becoming a family."

For me, one test of a good plot is how early the reader can guess the ending, and in this case we are definitely kept guessing. The three-way meeting at which Janice's destiny reveals itself came as a total surprise to me; and the surprises don't end there. In the end, despite its eerie moments, this is a feel-good story, a story of renewal and repair.”

Coinneach would like to sum up this book in one word—WOW—but that would be too short for a review.

"I was expecting a short novella about 100 pages long, so when I opened the package and saw it was a 390 page novel I was actually shocked, but pleased. I was a child in a sweet shop all over again when I opened the book and realized Mark had personally signed it for me.

I’ve never had to urge to sit down straightaway to write a review on a book. However, the excitement is running out of me quicker than I can type it. ...I’m not one for romance novels, to be honest with you. I normally opt for reading a Star Wars or Magic Myth story. But I’m glad I read it now. The last book that affected me emotionally was Terry Goodkind’s Faith Of The Fallen—and while it took Terry five books in a row to get the emotions from me, Mark did it right away. From page two, I hated Richard with a passion. In chapter two, I was warming to Travis, who was fast reminding me of myself when I first really fell in love with a woman. I consider myself a pretty tough young man and it takes quite a bit to have me sitting on the edge of my bed biting back tears, but I was there at one point in this book.

Not only is To Yesterday a romantic and serious novel, it’s also hilariously funny. You can’t help but go into stitches of laughter at Mark’s description of a pregnant character’s trip to the hospital and at Janice, whose humor is absolutely out of this world.

To Yesterday has reminded me what love is. No matter who you are, if you have ever believed in love, you should read this book. If I’ve learnt one thing from Mark, it’s “Be the who that you are, just don’t get caught doing it.” When Mark signed this book for me he signed it: “To Ken, Hope you find the meaning."

Thanks Mark, I found the meaning.

It’s the only book I have ever wanted to read again—I think I will be reading it again before the next week is out.

"Couldn't put it down!
What a great book. It seemed so real. I felt like I truly knew the characters, what they were going through, what they believed in. I recommend this book to everyone. It was a great change from the norm and so much more than a love story. It makes you think and believe. And has so many hidden meanings. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Can't wait to read more!!"

"Nice Surprise, Excellent Feel-Good Story!
This book was given to me as a gift, and what a pleasant surprise it was. Very nice story, Mr. Wildes. Heart-touching, real to life yet mystic as well. I look foward to reading other works by this author in the NEAR future."

"Look Forward To More From Mark Wildes!!!!!
I found out about this book by happenstance, word of mouth. After reading 'To Yesterday,' I wanted to read more of Mark Wildes work. This book was different from the normal romance/love stories I have read. It had personality because I often find myself thinking about its themes and the characters a lot. Its eerie moments topped with suspense and mysterious questions concerning a 200 year old love affair and a curse, throws the reader into an unexpected realm. The narrative might have gone out of its way with philosophical meandering, but there were points made that pointed arrows in the direction of important themes about life and things people do and how those things affect us in different ways; how love can direct us. With other more reserved themes concerning racism, alcoholism, money and children-parent relationships; being different, in this aspect, made for an interesting read, opposed to the stacks of attempted books I could never finish. A book with teardrops on the ending pages is a sign that it has affected someone. It is also the sign that I want to read more!!!!  Waiting patiently for the next book, Mr. Wildes. Also, thanks for your prompt email responses and kindness. That is greatly appreciated by a reader. I never give books 5 stars, but this one came very close."

Rarely do we find books that have both an interesting and captivating plot and characters are so real we get attached to them. Mark Wildes has definitely achieved this in "To Yesterday." Both the story and the characters captured my heart. The way in which Wildes develops his plot and incorporates themes of independence and letting go, as well as love and family is extraordinary. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys books that keep you guessing and that can make you laugh out loud, and cry tears of both sorrow and joy.”

This book was a new genre for me, however, I enjoyed it because there was such a clear picture of what was happening, and the characters were so real. This was much more than a love story. It captured an essence of human nature that we often forget in life. Very Nice.”

The book was suspenseful, gripping and full of all of the emotions I enjoy in a beautiful but somewhat tragic love story. I was deeply involved in the novel and feel that it tells a story that can touch so many people do to the magnitude of its nature and the aspects of life it touches throughout ones life. It read very well and kept my attention throughout its entirety.”

Hats off for Mark Wildes! Very Moving, Unforgettable.”

“A terrific book about starting over in life when there seems to be nothing left. Especially after your life is surrounded by memories from an old lover, dead and buried. I connected with Janice Gaither on many levels and Mark Wildes creates a world that is very real, so real that when it is over, you want it back. With many twists and turns, To Yesterday is on the top of my reading list. The ending is a passionate tear jerker like I have never known. Incredible read!”

Great Read With A Twist

“This book was a very enjoyable read. The lead character was very human and believable on her quest to find herself. I especially enjoy the 200 year old mystery surrounding the lake. I recommend this book strongly, it is not a typical love story.”
